Epicenter in the unpopulated Tibetan – Nepal border area in the Langtang Himal area. The epicenter was only 95 km from Kathmandu and 130 km from Namche Bazar, both popular tourist areas. Namche Bazar is also called as the gateway to the Mount Everest. The hypocenter of this earthquake was at a depth of 53 km which normally causes limited chance on damage or injuries.

Not really dangerous, but for the people of Yushu, a traumatic experience. Yushu is only 50 km from this epicenter.
Yushu was devastatated on April 13 by a 6.9 Magnitude earthquake.  More than 3000 people lost their life.
