The 2009 Banda Sea earthquake was an earthquake that occurred in the Banda Sea region, at 14:40:44 (UTC) on October 24, 2009, with a magnitude of 6.9 Mw. The location was 230 km north west of Saumlaki, Tanimbar Islands, Indonesia, 365 km south east of Ambon, Moluccas, Indonesia, 700 km north of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia, and 2610 km east of Jakarta, Java, Indonesia.
