Oelelevu Fiji islands - Panoramio picture

Earthquake Report comment :
GDACS nor USGS are mentioning the fishing community of Qelelevu, which is only 10 to 15 km from the shallow epicenter.
NO instances have issued a Tsunami bulletin.
Earthquake-Report.com calls Qelelevu at risk. Hopefully nobody got hurt on this beautiful island.
A VI to VII Mercalli can be expected on the small coral islet.

Wikipedia report on Qelelevu

Moderate but dangerous shallow earthquake on the Kyrgyzstan – Tibet border

Karakul Lake

Earthquake Report comment :
A very shallow earthquake happened right on the Kyrgyzstan/ Tibet (China)/Tajikistan border.
If the preliminary epicenter location will be confirmed, the danger might be limited.
Because of the Chinese Tibet policy, it is very hard to focus on satellite details in this area of the world.
600 mountain villagers will experience a VI Mercalli shaking (Strong shaking)
20,000 people a moderate shaking (Mercalli V)
Landslides and poor construction of the houses are the biggest dangers with an earthquake of this magnitude.
About 20 km from Karakul lake.

Dangerous shallow earthquake strikes near Jenah and Bastak (Iran)

Bastak

Bastak Iran - Image via Wikipedia

Update 14:28 UTC :  “This morning’s quake in Jenah has caused no damages so far,” Gheibi told Mehr News Agency, adding that rescue teams were on standby. (source : Iran Press TV)

Earthquake Report comment :
As there are different coordinates of the exact epicenter, we have used this time the Magnitude data from USGS and the epicenter location data from the Institute of Geophysics, University of Tehran.
Based on our experience with Iranian earthquakes, even M +5 earthquakes can be very dangerous.
Iranians live mostly in brick houses which are very vulnerable for earthquake shocks.
Unfortunately only very few reports come out of the country.
Although Bastak and Jenah are the bigger cities in the Hormuzgan province,  they do not exceed a population of 50,000. The area is a common earthquake target with major disasters.
