M 7.2   28-08-1916    Taiwan Depth 5 km – killing 16 people
The Nantou earthquakes consisted of four main damaging quakes and dozens of smaller quakes which were not so damaging.
The first major quake, on August 28, 1916, was the strongest at magnitude 6.8, but the hypocentre was relatively deep in the earth’s crust. 16 people did not survive the quake and 614 houses were destroyed.

M 7.2   28-08-1973    Mexico Depth 80.6 km   – killing 1,000 people
The earthquake, which caused widespread damage in parts of the States of Puebla and Veracruz in southeast Mexico, registered 7. 0 on the Richter Magnitude Scale, according to the Caltech Seismological Laboratory. The earthquake occurred at 3:51 (local time) on the morning of 28 August 1973. The center of destructive shaking was in the vicinity of Serdan in the State of Puebla.
Hypocenter at a depth of approx. 100km. The most seismic region of Mexico is along the southwest coast. Earthquakes in the region of Orizaba have been relatively infrequent; the most recent serious ground shaking occurred June 17, 1928 when a magnitude 7. 8 shock had its epicenter at 16N98W, some 250km south of Serdan. However, large earthquakes 100-300km south of Serdan have occurred relatively frequently.

M 5.5   28-08-1992    Pakistan Depth 6.4 km   – killing 4 people

At least four people killed, several injured and many houses destroyed in the Kalat area. Felt at Khuzdar, Manguchar, Mastung and Quetta.

“In memory of” is highlighting deadly earthquakes of the past.
People have forgotten a lot of these human tragedies.
