Chile – M 5.7 – strong earthquake near Conception followed by 2 aftershocks

Earthquake Report comment :
Strong aftershock struck the coastal area of Chile, in the same area as the M 8.8 earthquake from February 27.
People in the coastal town felt as if there were 2 aftershocks and experienced a moderate to strong shaking.
Such an indication means that this aftershock was really powerful as people in Chile are used to earthquakes. People woke up from their sleep and started to look for more details.
30 km around the epicenter people are expected to have been felt a strong to very strong shaking.
21000 people (very strong shaking) 42000 people (strong shaking)
Earthquake could be felt as far as the capital Santiago de Chile.
Chileans are very earthquake educated people as Roberto Pino said “se exaban de menos P”, means that the first P wave was almost inexistent (powerful earthquakes are most of the time (but not always) alerted by a short P wave, seconds later the damaging S waves can strike)
GDACS Green Earthquake Alert (Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System) = little danger

Update 10:48 UTC : In the province of Aurico, people ran on the streets as also the electrical power went down. (source emol.chile)
