The epicenter of this earthquake is in wilderness area.

Tanzania lies in the East African rift zone and parts of the country are seismically active. The country has a number of active volcanoes and regular earthquakes. 3 significant tectonic plates are pulling away from one another , the Arabian Plate, the 2 African Plates (Nubian and Somalian) and the Indian Plate
Tanzania contains many large and ecologically significant wildlife parks, including the famous Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park in the north, and Selous Game Reserve and Mikumi National Park in the south.
